Seven climate protesters dressed as suffragettes dumped horse manure on the Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s front lawn yesterday under a banner reading: “This is what you’re landing us in”.
They said that they objected to his “blasé attitude” and a drive he had made in the Arctic, claiming that it emitted 1.7 tonnes of carbon.
The activists from the environmental group Climate Rush unloaded the bag-loads of manure at Clarkson’s home in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. It was part of their month-long horse-and-cart road show around the south west of England to raise awareness of climate issues.
The group’s spokeswoman, Tamsin Omond, 24, said: “I love Jeremy, I love fast cars, I love progress, but I’ve learnt some things and those things terrify me.
“I learnt that climate change will make my future unrecognisable. I know I’ll not have the same choices that Jeremy has now.
“If we keep on loving the fossil-fuelled lifestyle then by the time I hit 49, the world will be too busy coping with the impact of climate change to bother about how big an engine is possible.
“I’m dumping dung at Clarkson’s gates so he might understand that his attitude will land us all in the s***.”
