Ryanair said that its passenger numbers increased by 17pc in September, to 6.1 million, from the same month a year earlier.
The airline’s load factor rose to 85pc from 84pc a year earlier, according to an emailed press release.
Meanwhile, British Airways said its traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometers, fell by 0.8pc in September.
The company said its premium traffic fell by 7.9pc during the month, while non-premium traffic rose 0.7pc.
“Premium traffic comparisons are starting to be against a weaker base, with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers occurring mid-way through September 2008,” the company said in a statement today.
